Early Silver Dimes
For lower-grade circulated coins, a majority of its value is based upon the coin's silver melt value. Each Mercury dime contains almost 1/10 of an ounce of silver (0.0723 oz. As of this writing, silver is currently selling for almost $16 per troy ounce. Therefore, each dime contains approximately $1.20 worth of silver. The mintmark is on the reverse of the coin and all Mercury Head dimes have the 'W' it's the designers initial, Adolph A. Weinman he also designed the Liberty Walking Half dollar. 1941 is a very common date if it has any wear at all the value is just for the silver, about a dollar. The 1941 Mercury dime’s numismatic value (its value to collectors) is higher than the melt value, even for lower grades. For dimes minted in Philadelphia (no mint mark present), grades Good-4 through Extremely Fine-40 are worth between $1.52 and $2.76. This is the where most 1941 Mercury dimes fall. Value: $632,500.
