Poker is a game of math, reading people, and mental toughness. Although there is an element of luck, luck would never determine your fate. If you keep taking the right calculated risks, you win, in the long run.
Life and love are the same. You can’t win if you don’t play.

After a decade working in the poker industry as a reporter and then professional player, I’ve been taking risks throughout my entire career. But the biggest risk I ever took was for my marriage.
Andrew and I fell in love on our very first date playing poker together. We moved to Las Vegas from the Midwest and got married. But as the years passed, we slowly stopped being honest with each other because the truth felt too scary. He hid his depression and I was drowning in anxiety. Instead of addressing it, we pretended nothing was wrong. We thought that was safer.
But without taking the risk to open up and be vulnerable, you can’t really know someone, which makes lasting love impossible. With no solution in sight, Andrew had an affair. In the aftermath, we both asked ourselves, “WTF am I doing with my life?”
It was an opportunity to reassess and recommit. We revealed truths, forgave one another, and acknowledged our own flaws. Most importantly, we began risking together. And we are now more deeply in love than I could have ever imagined possible.
Since then, I’ve dedicated my life to exploring the ways people can shift their relationship with risk. I’ve spent thousands of hours coaching and training personal development. I am a certified Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Coach and a Certified Personal Trainer. I’m passionate about this work because you matter. Your dreams matter. And not just to you but they matter to the world. With every record broken, every mindful breath, every lesson learned, every soulmate found and every single ounce of love we give ourselves makes a positive difference to those around us.
